Choose the car for the road you actually plan to drive.
A useful hire starts with the route, passengers, luggage and surface—not with the badge on the bonnet.
Start with the route
For Nairobi errands and tarmac, a compact city car or crossover can make more sense than a large SUV. For long drives or rougher public roads, compare ground clearance, tyre condition, luggage space and the vehicle's listed recovery rules before you reserve.
Match the surface
A crossover such as a CX-5 can suit maintained roads and light gravel when the owner's rules allow it. Remote tracks, deep sand and serious off-road routes call for a properly equipped 4WD, such as a Prado or Patrol, plus an honest conversation with the owner about where the car may go.
Read the handover details
Confirm who is driving, where the car is collected, the fuel policy, mileage allowance and how a problem is reported. The right car is only half the decision; a clear handover makes the rest of the trip quieter.
